Company Overview:

We are recruiting on behalf of a community-driven organisation committed to supporting families in Newcastle. We believe in providing comprehensive and compassionate care to enhance the well-being of families facing various challenges. Our dedicated team works collaboratively to empower individuals and strengthen family units through a range of support services. This role is initially on a temporary basis however, there is potential for this to be a permanent role for the right candidate.

Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and empathetic Family Support Worker to join our team in Newcastle. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing direct support to families, facilitating access to resources, and promoting positive family dynamics. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families within our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to families facing challenges such as parenting difficulties, financial strain, mental health issues, and relationship conflicts.
  • Conduct assessments to identify the needs and strengths of each family, and develop personalised support plans in collaboration with the family members.
  • Offer guidance, practical assistance, and advocacy to help families navigate social services, healthcare systems, educational institutions, and other relevant resources.
  • Organise and facilitate support groups, workshops, and educational sessions on topics related to family well-being, parenting skills, communication, conflict resolution, and stress management.
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions with families, progress made, and any interventions implemented, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with organisational policies.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, community agencies, and stakeholders to coordinate services and referrals, ensuring holistic support for families.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in family support and related areas.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working with families in a supportive capacity, preferably in a community-based setting.
  • Strong understanding of family dynamics, child development, trauma-informed care, and culturally sensitive practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport, build trust, and maintain boundaries with diverse individuals and families.
  • Capacity to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to maintaining professionalism, ethical standards, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and record-keeping.
